A kiwi from New Zealand, I joined the 2-week challenge as I decided I needed to get my keto back to basics. And in particular wanted to check I wasn’t overdoing the protein.
I first started keto in August and have lost 13.5 kg (30 lbs) already. It has felt effortless apart from being very organised about everything I eat lol. In the last two months, I have been using urine test strips and was so delighted when I got the pinks. Ketones! But find I bob in and out during the day and over the week.
My appetite is so reduced, and when I go low carb I don’t crave sugar or carb treats. Almost instantly. It just seems to work.
I had my gallbladder out a few years back so when I started LCHF I slowly introduced more fats as in the past that would make me unwell. And to be honest it just seemed so opposite from the health messages over the years. I’m fine now and I easily tolerate the daily recipe examples but wouldn’t have done so at the beginning of my journey.
In this time I have had two keto holidays as I had a weekend away with friends and a week in Samoa. I made the decision to eat carbs on the breaks and by the end of each trip was looking forward to getting back to keto. Historically I loved toast. But then I realised, it’s just toast and it didn’t make my life better or happier. When I’m tempted by carbs I just remember why I’m doing this and the pleasure my shrinking body delivers. My family is all very supportive but a bit sick of my keto convert conversation lol.
My only suggestion to your info is that perhaps you add a season selection as in the southern hemisphere we are heading into summer veges and BBQs. So don’t always want the winter type meals.
My doctor saw numbers on my annual physical results that she didn’t like and gave me the link to the Diet Doctor site. I signed up for the 2-week challenge, used the shopping list and then followed the plan exactly. It was easy to follow and allowed me to ease into the learning by doing and by reading only that day’s information; I didn’t get overwhelmed. My husband was intrigued and joined me – all in.
After work, I take 30 minutes to prepare the delicious sit-down meals. After dinner, we fast until noon when we’ve brought our lunch to work. On the rare occasions that we feel hunger, we drink water with bouillon cubes. I understand that the first week is usually mostly water loss, but my husband and I lost identical amounts of weight: 8 lbs (3.5 kg). We then carried on to week 2 and then on the third week, used a mix of the 2-week recipes. After three weeks, we’d each lost 16 lbs (7 kg). My back-aches went away, my husband’s fatigue went away. He used to crave chocolate and sweets and that’s gone. We are challenged by the bad breath and hope that goes away, but otherwise, Diet Doctor recipes are here to stay.
We had a challenge yesterday. We live in Calgary, Canada, and it was Grey Cup Sunday: big party time. We had decided to “go off the diet” for a day until I did some research and found keto recipes for chicken wings, dry ribs, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, and shrimp. What a treat and all part of our new normal. My husband and I are 59 years old and are grateful for this life-transforming way to eat. My husband has 18 lbs (8 kg) to go and for me, it’s 26 (12 kg). We hope to do this more slowly, soon incorporating a little bit of fruit, and make this a new way of eating.

The only thing for me was that I signed up but the emails didn’t come for a whole week so they were behind a week for some reason. But it wasn’t a big deal: I went on your website each day for the information.
I was told about the keto diet by my Doctor, who has been trying to keep me healthy for 39 years.
If I wasn’t eating meat and potatoes for supper and a hot stew or soup for dinner and bacon, eggs with toast every day, while also eating four or five apples and an orange for snacks, I was not happy.
I live in Nova Scotia, I’m a man, 57 years old. I graduated from college, hold a certificate for Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Mechanic. I’m a farmer and started working on the farm when I was able to walk and really started contributing to the family farm at the age of 9. Growing up, I was considered a bigger kid that was in shape and could move playing soccer, basketball, and rugby. I never had a health problem and was physically fit to about the age of 45 before I started putting on a few pounds, and then a little more, and then a little more, till I was 290 pounds (132 kg).
I had routine blood work done and at my visit to the doctor, he hit me with the news that I had type 2 diabetes and was overweight and had to do something if I wanted to continue living and working as normal. His suggestion was a keto/low-carb diet. He explained it to me a little and really I didn’t hear a lot about what he was saying as I sat there in shock. I didn’t know how I would ever survive without my meat and potatoes.
I’m going on week three now and couldn’t be more surprised at how well and satisfied I feel. I have lost 5 pounds (2 kg), 1-2 inches (2.5–5 cm) on my waist, and have not had a hungry moment, day or night, since I’ve started. I’m going to continue till I’ve lost the weight my doctor wants and get my life back.
I’ve been struggling with my weight since I was a teenager and have been on and off diets for most of my adult life. Luckily I don’t have any serious medical conditions, but I know that can quickly change. I’ve been working with a health coach for the past year with little improvement. I continuously felt my battle with food should not be this hard. Every day feels like I’m paddling upstream in high winds and making very little progress. I’m always thinking about food, feeling guilty, hiding what I eat and hating myself for not being stronger!
I turned 49 this October and decided enough is enough. Something needed to change. I heard about keto but originally thought it would be too restrictive for me. Just completed the low-carb challenge and really enjoyed it. I have lost 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg) and 3 inches (7.5 cm) from my waist. My husband has lost 7 pounds (3 kg).
The food is really easy to make, fresh and tastes fabulous, so much so much so that we have decided to continue to eat this way I have joined as a member. It really is great, and not as hard as I thought it might be giving up certain foods and sugar.
